Korinji is a Buddhist monastery in the Rinzai Zen tradition, currently being established in the center of America's Upper Midwest region near Madison, Wisconsin.
The Korinji Foundation, a not-for-profit (501c3) charitable organization founded in 2005, has the following mission:
- To provide resources for the construction, maintenance and development of Sotekizan Korinzenji ["Korinji" for short], a Rinzai Zen Buddhist monastic residence (sodo), and for ongoing support of the abbot and trainees practicing there.
- To promote Zen, as well as mind-body disciplines and fine arts that develop the human being and serve as complements to the Zen path.
- To fund instruction, publications, lectures, retreats, youth training, and other educational activities that make Zen practice more widely accessible.
- To explore innovative ways to express Buddhist wisdom in society, while promoting interreligious exchange and emphasizing the commonality of human spiritual experience.
Korinji is located on 17 acres of forested land, purchased entirely with donations. Construction of Korinji's first building has begun. Please read within to learn more about our vision, and how you can contribute to the founding of Korinji.
Korinji is partnered with Sokeizan Daiyuzenji, an urban Zen temple already existing on Chicago's north side, where the Foundation also maintains an office and conducts many of its activities (if you are interested in Zen practice and instruction in Chicago, please also see the Daiyuzenji site).
